Pillow Talk

Pillow Talk

I am the mom of a 15 year old son who suffers from night terrors since he was an infant. We never slept. He would be running screaming through the house easily 4 times a night. He would fight me, leave the house, jump on me in the middle of the night. It was horrible to watch what he would go through. Some nights I would have to tackle him so he didn't hurt himself, other times I could talk him into going back to bed without incident. When he went into grade 8 all of a sudden they stopped. We finally had peace. Then out of the blue this past April they started again. Thankfully, they aren't every night, but he is becoming more difficult to contain as he is 6'3" and it seems to be harder to wake him. Does anyone else out there go through this? No one seems to have answers for me.

Hi Tara,

I can't even begin to imagine what you have been going through.
My 3 year old son had a few short episodes about a year ago, and I remember the helpless feeling & the agony you go through as a mother. I found the site nightterrors.org to be helpful. I wish you all the best.

Thanks for the information Viveca. I will definately check out the website. As he gets older I get worried because I know he will want to move out on his own ....then what?
