If a doctor recommended viagra, why didn't that doctor prescribe it? I think that there are some interactions with that drug which are potentially dangerous, and I also have heard it has a hangover effect for some people.

I used to try so many things to wake up. I was sleeping through a Motorhead album every day starting at 7am. I thought the alarm clock/cd player was broken, until somebody aksed me when I was going to change the record. I slept right through it. D...
I wish I could remember what that stuff was called. I know it worked better for men, because my ex-boss, and my husband both took it, and it used to knock my husband out. I had it for a while, but you don't need it forever. It is so cool, because ...
I have heard about people doing that with drugs like ambien? That's very scary. You are probably right to stop. There's another one, which is way milder, and it's based on melatonin, but by prescription. I don't know the name of it. I have used it...
On that note, I would add, you might want to start with a complete physical, to rule out any other conditions, and make sure that there isn't something that needs a tune up. (Note, tune up...get it?)
Some people might say that a human brain after a certain age would have a difficult time coping with fresh data (any percent non familiar) on some level at any rate. That all data is somehow "known" as familiar.
And also variable, therefore it is ...
O.k. that had nothing to do with anything, Mary, RN. I am formallly challenging your motives, since you seem to be shamelessly pitching your product. I thought we were on this site for another purpose. Anyone else???
My question was how do you ge...
Also technilogically challenged, I just deleted my previous comment, NO idea how! By the time I've organised Xyrem delivery to my local pharmacy I feel like requesting an Ativan scrip(just jokes)!. Ditto on the skin issues! I quit taking amphets. 20 yrs ago; too many side effects one of which was totally screwing my digestive tract and gut linings (I take probiotics like candy only I don't eat candy); they were definately effective as I'd turn into "speedy gonzoles" but now when if I try them its just like being on plain speed. I use coffee as a stimulant; I could never work at a sit down job, try not to drink it after 1 p.m. but all depends what I'm attempting to accomplish at the time. Am considering appying for disability benefits. Been bouncing on and off med. leave as required for the last 10 yrs. seem to be getting less and less resiliant to pretty much any working or just plain stressfull conditions of pretty much any sort!. If I wasn't so stressed out about working and keeping a job I might actually be able to contribute something to society in the way of volunteering (now I'm stressed out from using the word stress too much). I also am currently living on small farm, we recently accquired sheep; maybe I could move them closer to the house and literally start counting them at night! OK any other CRAZY narcoleptics out there? Talk about a rant! Hey its raining or I'd be gardening and getting some of the vit. D I SO need!
Jackie.

I don't think I am responding to the questions the right way. Can somebody tell me what box to hit?
I never do well with making friends. I think they think I'm bored, but I'm usually tired. (Sometimes I'm bored.)
Whiile I'm here, I'll tell you what really bugs me about narcolepsy: doctors who "don't believe it is a real disease"....yeah, they are out there. People who don't believe the same. People who tell me I'm faking it. Pharmacists who lecture me about my prescriptions, or flat out refuse to fill them, because they think I'm an addict. (the truth is that if I don't take the rx I'm not allowed to drive...and for very good reasons.) And the wacky dermatologists who blame my occasional skin issues on "the stress from having narcolepsy, which is a mental illness." What if the stress is from having a huge blemish on my face that won't go away? Couldn't that stress me out? Narcolepsy doesn't have my parents and everyone else I meet going "hey what's that on your chin?"
O.k. that's my rant.
Hi Danielle,
Thanks for explaining cataplexy to me. It must be very hard to deal with. Does it ever cause you to get injured by doing something you're not aware of?
My sleep apnea is a severe case. My Dr. said that my brain just doesn't realize I'm not breathing when I'm asleep. So it's not the regular obstructive sleep apnea that is more common. It would be classified as more of a central sleep apnea. I use an "autoset" cpap, which changes air pressure when my brain forgets I'm not breathing. It sends air at nearly twice the normal rate at those times. My Dr. said after my stay in the sleep clinic that my sleep apnea was depriving my brain of oxygen at such a high rate that it could be destroying brain cells. And I need all the brain cells that I have & more! So it has been a life saving treatment for me. Even though I still dread putting it on every night.
I hope you have a good day. Juanita
I was recently informed by my mother (who is still really ashamed to speak of this), that she has had these symptoms, my grandmother, great-grandmother, and my grandmother's siblings...of which there were 13, 4 at least are known to have had serious symptoms, and their children and grandchildren are also presenting symptoms. None of us communicate. But at least knowing this history, I can let my doctors know how crazy my genes are. Its probably um, dominant. (joke)
Hello! My name is Michelle I joined the group today and just thought I would introduce my self. I'm 39 yrs a mother of three children, Lauren 20 Kalie 12 Caden 3 and I also have a step-daughter Alexis 17 that spends half of your time with us. My husband Darin and I live on a 56 acre farm. We have several head of cattle but that is all the aniamls on our farm besides a few kitty's running around. My husband works full time for Rubbermaid and raises cattle on the side. He stays pretty busy keeping up with all his tasks. I have been disabled since October 2007, I recently just received approval on my social security benefits. It was pretty quick for approval less than three months. Before this I worked at our local hospital as a Respiratory Therapist for eleven years. This has been the most difficult thing for me to cope with, not being able to keep doing what I really have a passion for. I started a new hobby back in January due to my illness, "Quilting" I have really no clue what brought me to this hobby, but I really enjoy it greatly. Well I hope to hear from you in the near future.
Hi Danielle!
I just joined this site yesterday, so I am new to this. I was diagnosed with sleep apnea 3 yrs. ago & have been using a cpap ever since. I am not familiar with cataplexy. Could you tell me about it? Welcome to the site. I hope it is helpful to both of us.
Juanita
