Pillow Talk

Pillow Talk

Since school has started, Ive had to get used to falling asleep around 9:30pm instead of TV & reading till 1am. Its been hard, since Im tired from previous nights, to fall asleep at such an 'early' time. I usually have to be really tired in order to fall asleep faster. Since I have trouble sleeping at such an early time that my body isnt used to, I spend more time trying to fall asleep, and less time actually asleep. When I wake up and get breakfast, I have flashes where my vision gets black, temporarily and it only lasts 5 seconds, I have a slight headache and feelings of dizzyness. Any idea if this is normal? And tips to fall asleep faster would be appreciated.

Hey Delaney,

Does the vision and dizzyness stuff happen when you stand up or first get out of bed? And do you kind of jump up and try to get out of bed? Just curious. You might want to give yourself some time getting up, slowly laying there first, then gradually sit up, then put your feet on the ground and then slowly stand up. Just sounds like your body has some trouble "jumping out of bed." Just my opinion.

Also, are you giving yourself some time to get accustomed to the new bedtime or are you just going one night 1am and the next night 9:30pm? That is a big change. I tend to start my kids over a series of weeks where we go to bed an hour earlier each week. My youngest has delayed sleep phase syndrome and he can't just start a new schedule on a dime. My oldest usually doesn't need as much time as my youngest (he doesn't seem to have an sleep issues).

If you don't want to devote a month, try it over two weeks. Any length of time that gives your body a chance to adjust. One hour change at a time seems to be a good increment. It will not feel so hard on you. See if that can help.

Take care,

Judi

Thanks for your answer.
The dizziness usually occurs when Im in my kitchen getting breakfast, or while I'm walking to the kitchen. I think you may be right that I have trouble ''jumping out of bed''. And as for the sleep thing; I was going to sleep around 1am, and then my mom made me switch to 9:30 for school. Since then, Ive been either reading or listening to music until 10:30 or 11:00, because I have to be tired in order to fall asleep faster. Thanks for the advice!

Delaney are you still having flashes, headache, and dizzyness? Did you just start a new med. or change from one med. to another or just changing the time of when you take your meds. When I first was diagnoised with Narcolepsy and started meds. I had those symptoms. They're called brain shocks. I got them when changing meds. or went a few days without meds. but that was only at the beginning, I don't seem to get them any more. It was quite scary until I read something online about it. With just starting these meds. I thought that I might be having a Aneurysm or something.
Sleeping Tip:
When I can not get to sleep as fast as I would like I place the pillow over my head. Don't keep it tight or heavy, then place a small breathing airway. I'm usually out in 5min. Not sure why but I feel more calm and in tune with my inner voice.

God Bless

Joyce

I hardly get any sleep at all and I have morning nausea bad. I think your problem could be caused by lack of sleep too.
